The unveiling ceremony of Zhejiang Green Intelligent Vehicle and Spare Parts Technology Innovation Center took place in Ningbo on May 26 in the afternoon when Intelligent Factory Operation System Technology Innovation Center and Green Intelligent Vehicle and Spare Parts Technology Innovation Center were respectively unveiled by Tang Feifan, Deputy Secretary of CPC Ningbo Committee and Mayor, and Gao Yingzhong, Director of Provincial Department of Science and Technology. The ceremony was chaired by Hua Wei, Standing Committee Member of CPC Ningbo Committee and Executive Vice Mayor; Zhu Jinmao, Secretary-General of the Municipal Government, Wang Zhaobo, Director of Administration Committee of Ningbo Qianwan New Area and Deputy Secretary of Party Work Group, Li Donghui, CEO of Geely Holding Group and Director of Innovation Center and Cai Shijie, Vice Director of Administration Committee of Ningbo Qianwan New Area and Member of Party Work Group, attended the ceremony.
Located in Shanghai-Ningbo Talent Cooperation Pioneering Area in Qianwan Bay as one of the first six provincial technology innovation centers, Green Intelligent Vehicle and Spare Parts Technology Innovation Center is initiated by Geely Group and co-built by enterprises along the industrial chain with governmental support, focusing on green intelligent vehicle and advanced spare parts industry. Aiming at breakthroughs in forward-looking key technologies of common interest in the fields of intelligent driving, green energy and advanced spare parts, the Center is committed to shaping a world class innovation and industrialization platform for automobile and spare part technologies based in Zhejiang and oriented towards the global market. By building a green intelligent vehicle industrial ecosystem with Ningbo at the center and a radius of 1-hour logistics, the Center will boost the clustering and high-quality development of automobile industry in Zhejiang while evolving into a demo base of China’s innovation-driven development strategy. Fully operating on a market-based mechanism, the Center effectively allocates its innovation resources through industry-education-research collaboration to form powerful synergy in S&T innovation while facilitating transfer and industrial application, which is comparable to hematopoiesis in sustainable regional and industrial development. By the end of 2026, the Center is expected to become a center that agglomerates local and global innovation resources, attracts leading innovators and incubates key technology innovations with over 3 billion RMB in R&D investment, no less than 800 technological professionals through both recruitment and in-house training, no less than 15 national level talents and no less than 10 teams of high-level innovators and entrepreneurs. In the future, Qianwan New Area will actively explore into construction and organization mechanisms, operation and management models as well as investment and funding channels of innovation platforms, highlighting key tasks such as innovation ecosystem building, core technological breakthroughs, IP operation, transfer and industrial application of research achievements, study on institutional system and mechanism, etc., so as to provide industrial innovation support for constructing new industrial platforms, fostering emerging industries and forming industrial clusters of “10,000 mu in size and 100 billion RMB in value”.
Provincial Green Intelligent Vehicle and Spare Parts Technology Innovation Center recommended by Qianwan New Area, Ningbo was selected for Notice on the Construction of Six Provincial Technology Innovation Centers Including Intelligent Factory Operation System Technology Innovation Center released by Zhejiang Provincial Government in the beginning of this year. Oriented towards the transformation from science to technology while facilitating industrial application of key fundamental research achievements, provincial technology innovation centers constitute a core component in technology innovation system and the reserve force behind national technology innovation centers. According to Guidelines for Technology Innovation Center Constructure in Zhejiang (Trial), by 2025, Zhejiang is expected to build ten to fifteen comprehensive or specialized provincial technology innovation centers focusing on the three highlands of S&T innovation and key technological areas at the commanding heights of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality that address long-term development, with a bearing on industrial security and involved in local and international competition, aiming at breakthroughs in bottleneck issues and gaining advantage in frontier technologies. It can be safely stated therefore that provincial technology innovation centers are an important vehicle of fostering strategic S&T strengths in Zhejiang.
